Marnie is our eldest child. She is
married to David Berry. They have two gorgeous girls, Ainsley Lynne and Nadia Lesle.
David is a senior manager with one of Australia’s major banks,
and Marnie is one of those newly-emerging status symbols of the twenty-first century…
a full time, stay at home wife and mother.
Marnie has a trained operatic voice that is nothing short of spectacular (or, in
the words of one of her teachers, “delicious!”). She studied at the Melbourne Conservatorium
of Music under Cavell Poli, herself a diva of international renown, after following
in her mother’s foot steps at MacRobertson Girls’ High School, where she topped the
State in Music (Voice) in her final year.
Despite her teachers’ fondest hopes and dreams, Marnie chose not to pursue a full-time
career in opera. She chose, instead, to serve a full-time mission for our Church
(during which she met David), then to become a full-time wife and mother. We love
her priorities.
Her choice came as no real surprise to us. During her final year at school, in an
interview with the school principal, Gabrielle Blood, Marnie had expressed this intention,
unequivocally. Gabrielle mentioned it to us because she found it so unusual (amid
the more usual career choices of medicine, law, arts, business, fashion, science,
etc) – and so refreshing.
Equally talented in visual arts and writing, Marnie could have had a brillint career
in fields such as advertising, where she distinguished herself during work experience
as a high school student. Those talents are now put to good use writing and illustrating
stories for her daughters (and their Aunt Esther!).
Always a faithful and obedient daughter (okay... apart from one or two teenage lapses,
but they don’t count at the end of the day), Marnie has blossomed into a truly beautiful
woman and a source of constant joy and fulfilment to her parents. |
